Our history
Millennium Destinations (MD) was launched in 2010 by Catherine GERMIER-HAMEL as a blog aimed at promoting sustainable tourism initiatives and destinations around the world, particularly in developing countries.
The main purpose was to give more exposure to less-known destinations so that they can actually attract visitors, while sharing practical solutions and insights on the contribution of tourism to global sustainable development and the achievement of the UN Millennium Development Goals.
In 2014, Millennium Destinations became an international network of experts and freelancers engaged in the development and promotion of tourism destinations, businesses and products / experiences.
Early 2016, Millennium Destinations was incorporated as Millennium Destinations Ltd., a Seoul-based boutique agency offering creative business services and solutions for global marketing, communications, PR, event planning, sustainable business development, and capacity-building and training to its clients and partners, mainly in the field of travel, tourism, hospitality, F&B, and MICE, towards the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Since 2018, Millennium Destinations has been co-developing Herost, as a global online platform and network for co-creating, sharing and promoting community-based travel experiences, with the main purpose to mainstream fair sustainable tourism as a transformative tool for the development and empowerment of local host communities.
Our vision: responsibility, sustainability, equity, and inclusiveness as universal values and default options, towards peace, well-being, happiness, balance, harmony, and identity for all.
Our mission: to contribute to the spreading of smart & sustainable experiences, lifestyles, and consumption & production (SCP) patterns, particularly in the travel, tourism, hospitality, and MICE industries, and to promote green destinations and businesses, as well as products and experience that have a positive net impact on the planet and its people.
Because tourism activities are human activities, Millennium Destinations is mostly focusing on culture, lifestyle, people-centered, demand / behavioral approaches, as well as participatory processes encouraging concerted efforts and permanent interactions / consultations among all stakeholders, and mutual enrichment for the tourists and host communities.
Millennium Destinations is particularly committed to supporting Small and Medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), start-ups, young and/or female entrepreneurs, social businesses, non-profit organizations, associations and cooperatives, etc. in their efforts to develop their markets and brand image, domestically and internationally.
