Catherine Germier-Hamel is an impact entrepreneur, consultant and executive manager with 30 years of international experience dedicated to local and international development. After nine years of working as a consultant for a French company offering technical assistance and operational support for environmental utility management in developing and emerging countries, Catherine decided to specialize in sustainable tourism. In 2005, Catherine relocated to South Korea where she started a career as Sustainable Tourism Development and Marketing Consultant and Trainer. She also served as F&B Marketing Manager and Sustainability Advisor at a Novotel Hotel Gangnam (2007-2008) and as Director of Global Programs & Sustainable Tourism Consultant at UNWTO ST-EP (Sustainable Tourism for Eliminating Poverty) Foundation (2008-2014). In 2016, she launched Millennium Destinations, an impact enterprise providing creative consulting services and innovative solutions to small businesses and organizations in the travel, tourism, and hospitality sectors for their sustainable tourism development and marketing. In 2019, she created Herost, an online travel guide and toolkit promoting sustainable, community-driven travel places, experiences, and practices. In 2021, Catherine was appointed CEO of Destination Mekong, a private-sector-led Destination Management and Marketing Organization (DMO) aimed at promoting sustainable tourism ecosystems and business networks in the six countries of the Mekgong region: Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam Catherine holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration and Management from Neoma Business School - Reims Campus (1992) and a post-degree in Sustainable Tourism Development from University Paris Nanterre (2004).
